Genesis 1:6-10 – Firmament & Separating Waters Meaning Explained

We are growing into a new heaven and a new earth.
This is the fourth video in which we explore from Genesis 1 how this process occurs.
If this is the first video in this series you are watching, I strongly encourage you to start from Part 1 so you will better understand what is being said in this video.

When we read Genesis 1 with spiritual eyes, it shows us how the new creation comes about.
This new creation, is the new man, the man who lives from the identity of Christ.

Because….

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (NKJ)
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.

In parts 1, 2 and 3 of this series, we examined the first five verses in Genesis 1, learning to read them through the eyes of the New Testament.
We could now read these five verses in the following manner:

Genesis 1:1-5
1. In Christ, God created the new heavens and the new earth.
2. Our hearts are formless and void and darkened by lack of understanding,
and the Spirit of God hovers above the waters of our hearts.
3. And God said, let there be insight! And there was insight.
4. And God saw that insight was good, and He divided insight from ignorance.
5. And God called insight day and ignorance He called night.

Genesis 1:1-5 spiritual and natural eyes reflection on divine creation and enlightenment, emphasizing insight and ignorance in God's creation.

The first day of our life as a new creation has past.
On that day, God has given us insight into the meaning of what He says in His wisdom.
Because of this, we can begin to grow.
The apostle Peter puts it exactly this way.

1 Peter 2:2 (NAS)
Like newborn babies,
long for the pure milk of the word,
so that by it you may grow!

There was evening and there was morning; it is the second day in our lives as a new man.
Let’s see what God does today allowing us to grow further to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.

Genesis 1:6-10 (NKJ)
God said, “Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters,
and let it divide the waters from the waters.”
Thus God made the firmament,
and divided the waters which were under the firmament
from the waters which were above the firmament.
And God called the firmament Heaven.
Then God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place,
and let the dry land appear”.
And God called the dry land Earth,
and the gathering together of the waters He called Sea.

Water is an image of the word.
It is an image of that which is said.
The water above the firmament is the word of God, the wisdom of God.
The water under the firmament is what man says, earthly wisdom.

Water above firmament representing God's creation and divine authority in biblical teachings.

Because we drink from the water of earthly wisdom, we feel separated from God, but God has never left us!
To open our eyes to His love, He sent us His Son Jesus to reconcile us to Him so that the separation would be undone.

For Jesus is the water from above the firmament.
He came to earth to make the water under the firmament, that what man says, the same water as the water above the firmament, that what God says.
Look:

John 1:1,4,14 (NKJ/GNT)
In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The Word was the source of life, and this life brought light to people.
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us,
and we beheld His glory,
the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jesus Christ is the word of God in its completeness in a human being.
He brings the water from above the firmament to us on earth so that we may learn the truth, receive grace, and through it live.

Water above firmament, biblical creation, Word of God, John 1:1, divine revelation, spiritual faith, Honor of Sonship, Christian teaching, scripture explanation, heavenly truth, spiritual enlightenment.

John 4:14 (NKJ)
Jesus said: “whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.
And the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water
springing up into everlasting life.”

Jesus Christ is the water from above the firmament, the Word of God in a body.
He came to earth full of grace and truth.
This grace is already given to everyone, but in order to accept this grace, we must first be able to see it.
To receive this grace, we must come to know Jesus Christ.
This is only possible when the Holy Spirit reveals Him to us.
Look at what Peter says:

1 Peter 1:13 (NKJ)
Rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

To receive grace, jesus Christ must be revealed to us by the Holy Spirit.
This is done throughout the Bible, and the last book of the Bible is probably the clearest example of this.
Indeed, the book begins with:

Revelation 1:1
The Revelation of Jesus Christ….

That is the essence of the book!

Throughout the book of Revelation, Jesus Christ is revealed to us

full of grace and truth

In order to hear and understand this revelation through the Holy Spirit, we cannot listen with carnal ears, but we will have to learn to listen with spiritual ears.
This is also repeatedly inculcated in the second and third chapters of the book.

Revelation 2:11 (NKJ)
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

When we learn to listen with spiritual ears, Jesus Christ can be revealed to us.
Then we can receive grace and drink from the water He gives us.
And when you drink of this water, from above the firmament, it will become in you a fountain of living water from which others can now drink.

"Water above and below firmament representing God's voice and creation in the context of honor of sonship, spiritual growth, and divine authority.".

When we have ears to hear, we will hear what the Spirit is saying throughout the book of Revelation, and we will end up saying the same thing the Spirit is saying.
You can read this in the last chapter of the book of Revelation.

Revelation 2:11 (NKJ)

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Revelation 22:17 (BSB)

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!”
Let the one who hears, say, “Come!”
And let the one who is thirsty come,
and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.

You are that bride!

Changed from the harlot of Babylon to a virgin bride for Christ.
Changed from an old creation to a new heaven and a new earth
The old has passed away! Behold, all things have become new!

When we have ears to hear, we can drink of the water from above the firmament that Jesus gives us to drink.
Thus the water under the firmament, the sea, becomes the same water as the water above the firmament.
So there is no more sea, because now there is only water from above the firmament.
This was revealed to John 2,000 years ago and is now revealed to us in the book of the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Revelation 21:1 (NKJ)
I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away.
Also there was no more sea.

By drinking from the Word of God, you have become a new heaven and a new earth.
There is no more sea.
The water from above the firmament has become a fountain of living water inside you.
There is no longer a separation between the waters.
The waters under the firmament have become the same water as the waters above the firmament.
The waters under the firmament have been reconciled with the waters above the firmament.

2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (NKJ)
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation
old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Now these things are of God,
who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ

In the next video, we are going to look at verses 11, 12 and 13 of Genesis 1, in which we are going to make great discoveries again about how we as a new heaven and new earth come about.
