Imagine that everything you say is a prayer.
Not just those few minutes when you close your eyes and fold your hands, but every single word that crosses your lips.
True Prayer – Speaking in Spirit and Truth
Imagine that everything you say is a prayer.
Not just those few minutes when you close your eyes and fold your hands, but every single word that crosses your lips.
Most of us have been taught that prayer is a “moment.” something you turn on and off.
But what if prayer is everything you are?
What if your life is one continuous broadcast to the throne of God?
In Proverbs 18, there is a verse that changes everything:
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue.
Those who love it will eat its fruit.
This is not poetry.
This is a spiritual law.
Your words are the building blocks of the reality you live in.
The Power of Words
Look at the Israelites in the wilderness. In Numbers 14, we read that they complained against Moses. They cried out “If only we had died in Egypt, or in this wilderness!”
Numbers 14:2
All the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron,
and the whole congregation said to them,
“If only we had died in the land of Egypt!
Or if only we had died in this wilderness!”
To them, these were just words of frustration.
But what does God say?
Numbers 14:28
I will do to you exactly as I heard you say.
.
Their words were not without consequence.
What they spoke became the reality they lived in.
Their dead bodies fell in the desert, exactly as they had declared.
But it works the other way too.
In verse 20, God says
Numbers 14:20
I have forgiven them according to your word.
Do you understand the depth of this?
Jesus’ statement in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you,” applies to everything you say!
This is not because God is some external force evaluating our words.
It goes much deeper: it is the very nature of who we are.
John 1 says that the Word was not only with God, but the Word was God.
John 1:1
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God!
That means that speaking, in its deepest sense, is connected to identity.
God does not just speak—He reveals Himself.
And you? You are made in the image of God.
If the Source of all that exists speaks to create, and you are made in His likeness, then your words carry that same creative power.
Here lies the secret of Gods rest spoken of in Hebrews.
Entering that rest doesn’t mean you stop being active; it means recognizing that the New Creation is finished.
This New Creation is who you truly are: the Anointed One. The Christ.
Because that is what “Christ” means: Anointed one.
Just as kings and priests were anointed in the past to rule and to serve, so you have now been made a king and a priest to God.
Revelation 1:6
Jesus has made us kings and priests to God.
It is written about Jesus
John 1:14
The Word became flesh.
That is the divine principle for the new man. When you speak from that anointing—from the king and priest you are— the Word becomes flesh in this world once again, through you.
But what we often do is the exact opposite: we let the flesh become the word.
We allow the flesh to speak; our old nature, our fears, our shortcomings.
This is what James means when he says that whoever does not stumble in the word is a perfect man.
James 3:2
Whoever does not stumble in the word is a perfect man,
able to control the whole body as well.
That perfect man is the Christ.
When that king within you speaks, he brings the whole body—the whole creation—under control.
In that rest, the flesh stops speaking, and you finally speak as a king and a priest; the anointed one that you are.
Inside The Temple
Now that we know WHO we are, we need to understand WHERE we are.
The Bible says that the Kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:21)
It is the Holy of Holies where the throne of God stands.
Or do you not know that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
Your body is the holy place where God and man meet.
In that temple, you wear two crowns.
You are a king to rule in God’s kingdom within you, and you are a priest to serve in His temple: your body.
One of the primary tasks of that priest is tending the altar of incense.
This incense is a powerful image used throughout Scripture to reveal what prayer in Spirit and Truth is and what it does.
The altar of incense stood in the part of the temple called “the Holy Place,” right before the Ark of the Covenant.
The Ark is the throne of God standing in His kingdom.
In Leviticus 16, we read something mysterious.
Leviticus 16:12-13
The priest shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from the altar before the Lord, with his hands full of sweet incense beaten fine, and bring it inside the veil.
And he shall put the incense on the fire before the Lord, that the cloud of incense may cover the mercy seat that is on the Testimony, so that he will not die.
The priest must place incense on the fire so that a cloud of fragrance covers the mercy seat… ‘so that he will not die‘.
Here we see the direct connection to Proverbs 18.
Proverbs 18:21
Death and Life are in the power of the tongue
When you speak from the flesh—from fear, judgment, or lies—you release a fragrance of death in your own temple.
But when you speak life, you bring an offering in Spirit and Truth.
Those words of life are the sweet fragrance of the Anointed One himself.
It is a cloud of smoke that fills your entire inner being and reaches the throne of God.
This is why praying in Spirit and Truth is so vital: it is how the priest in you preserves life.
And what does Paul teach us?:
Romans 6:9+11
For we know that Christ — the Anointed One —, now that He has been raised from the dead, dies no more.
Death no longer has dominion over Him.
So you too, consider yourselves….
So when you speak as the Anointed One that you are, you stand in that immortal power.
You speak the language of eternity in the middle of temporary circumstances.
The question is: what fragrance are you releasing?
Measuring the Temple
Prayer in Spirit and Truth begins with awakening and seeing.
In Ezekiel 47, the temple is measured, and that temple is you.
Measuring is the moment where you stop merely talking at God and start listening to what you are saying throughout the day.
When you speak from fear, lack, or judgment, you are doing the opposite of praying in Spirit and Truth; you are bringing an offering of ‘flesh and lies.’
You release the fragrance of death in your own temple.
This is why so many people get stuck in a cycle of simply confirming their current reality.
They see the problems, they speak the problems, and in doing so, they reinforce the very world they’re trying to escape.
They are breathing in the fragrance of their own words.
It’s crucial that you start hearing this coming from your own lips.
Not to feel condemned, but to understand that Proverbs 18:21 is an eternal principle: death AND life are in the power of the tongue.
Every sentence you utter is a seed that inevitably bears fruit.
It is a law that applies to everyone, every single day.
You are constantly creating.
The only question is: what are you creating?
The Temple's Building Materials
1 Corinthians 3:11
No one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, each one’s work will become evident. And the fire will test the quality of each one’s work.
Praying in Spirit and Truth means building with the right materials.
Words of the flesh are like wood, hay, and straw; they cannot withstand the fire of God’s presence.
Words of the Spirit are pure and fireproof.
Gold, in the Bible, is a picture of truth.
And those precious stones?
They are an image of the growth in your sonship.
On the breastplate of the high priest were twelve precious stones corresponding to the names of the sons of Israel.
Exodus 28:21
The stones shall have the names of the sons of Israel,
twelve according to their names.
The first stone was Reuben (רְאוּבֵן). This means ‘Behold, a son’.
And the last stone was Benjamin (בִּנְיָמִין) ‘Son of the right hand’.
THIS is the pathway of prayer: from the birth of sonship to the fullness of the throne.
As you speak this way, the fallen tabernacle of David is rebuilt within you.(Acts 15:16).
Je herstelt de troon in je eigen hart door woorden te spreken die overeenstemmen met die troon.
Je bouwt een werkelijkheid die standhoudt in het vuur.
What are you building on the foundation?
Are you building Babylon?
Genesis 11:3
They all said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks out of clay and straw and bake them thoroughly!” So they used brick instead of stone, and tar instead of mortar.
Or are you building the New Jerusalem?
Revelation 21:18
The wall was made of jasper, and the city itself of pure gold, as pure as glass.
The revelation of the son
We often try to change our behavior on the outside, but prayer in Spirit and Truth is a transformation of your very being.
Jesus said
Matthew 23:26
First clean the inside of the cup and the dish,
and then the outside will also be clean.
When the inside is cleansed by truth, the Word becomes flesh once again. Your words are no longer wishes directed at a distant God—they become royal decrees from the inner chamber; the Holy of Holies where the throne stands.
This is what it means to reign with Christ, and the meaning of Revelation 3:21:
Revelation 3:21
To the one who overcomes, I will grant to sit with me on my throne,
just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on His throne.
Paul says in Romans 8:19 that all creation waits in eager expectation for the revelation of the sons of God.
Why?
Because the world is groaning under the power of words of death.
The world needs people who understand that their tongue is the instrument of the Kingdom.
Prayer is no longer a religious ritual; it is the conscious exercise of your priesthood.
When you rise up and speak life, a fragrance of incense rises that drives out death.
Then the New Creation is finished, then the throne is occupied.
And you are the anointed one who speaks.
Speak life!
Build with gold!
And be the fragrance of Christ in a world that is waiting for your voice.
